Rotation of the boom relative to the the stand and lateral movement of the boom relative to the stand allows nearly constant magnifier to table distance over a large viewing area. A dovetail slide with rack and pinion control and an easy to turn control knob allows up and down movement of the microscope for focusing. Articulation points move and lock well.

There are some areas of missing or chipped paint that does not affect performance. With 15X WF eyepieces magnifier gives 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 magnification. Focal distance at 40X is as shown in the photo with the magnifier focused on a circuit board. So therefore very steady when placed on a solid table.
